About
A free list of free things.
Free NYC Weekend lists the free events on New York City’s parks calendar, sorted so you can decide in a minute what to do on Saturday.
Where the listings come from
NYC Parks publishes its public events for the next 14 days as open data: NYC Parks Public Events – Upcoming 14 Days on NYC Open Data. We download it once a day and rebuild the site. We use the facts — name, date, time, park, borough and kind of event — and link every event to its official page. We don’t copy the event descriptions or photos; the official page has those.
Event data: NYC Parks via NYC Open Data. Not affiliated with NYC Parks or the City of New York.
What “free” means here
A listing appears only if it says it is free, or if it is one of the city’s free programs (such as Shape Up NYC classes, Urban Park Rangers walks and It’s My Park volunteer days), or a volunteer event. The city’s feed has no price field, so a few free events may be missing, and partner-run events set their own rules. Some events ask you to register in advance, and space can be limited.
Always check the official page before you go. Events change, move indoors or get canceled, and the official page is the final word. We hide canceled listings and anything that has already ended.
How often it updates
Every day. Listings updated October 18 at 9:38 AM ET; this site was built October 18 at 6:02 PM ET.
Who makes it
Free NYC Weekend is an independent project. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or run by NYC Parks or the City of New York. The site was written and built by go4 with AI assistance (Claude, by Anthropic), and the listings are checked against the official pages. There are no ads, no affiliate links and no tracking cookies.
A short Thursday email with the weekend’s free events is coming. There is no sign-up form yet, because we won’t show one until it works.
